Monozygous twins concordant for duodenojejunal villous atrophy and dermatitis herpetiformis.
A pair of monozygous twins concordant for both duodenojejunal villous atrophy and dermatitis herpetiformis are described, the first example to be reported in the literature. The observation provides strong support for the concept of an underlying genetic component being involved in the pathogenesis of these two conditions.

Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is an autoimmune, pleiomorphic, papulovesicular disorder associated with celiac disease and gluten sensitivity. DH is characterized by subepidermal bullae on hematoxylin and eosin staining and granular immunoglobulin A deposits in the dermal papillae using the direct immunofluorescence method. Antibodies to tissue transglutaminase and epidermal transgulatminase can...

Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH), described over 100 years ago, is a life-long blistering skin disease that can appear at any age. Dapsone controls the rash effectively and has been used for over 50 years in the treatment of DH. Major landmark in the research of DH was 30 years ago the discovery of granular IgA deposits in the upper papillary dermis,1 and further differentiation of an autoimmune d...

Dermatitis herpetiformis (DH) is a rare immunobullous disorder of the skin that is associated with gluten hypersensitivity. Subepidermal IgA-type antibody deposition against tissue transglutaminase leads to dense neutrophilic microabscess and eventually into vesicles in dermal papillae, which may occasionally merge into bullae. Being a subepidermal vesiculobullous disorder, DH is frequently ass...

DERMATITIS herpetiformis (DH) is an intensely itchy dermatosis of a chronic nature. Although the lesions most often consist of tense vesicles grouped on the extensor surfaces of the body, they may also be erythematous, urticarial or papular and more diffuse. As a result of the intense itch the lesions are excoriated and frequently present as small crusted areas. Thus other parameters are necess...
